Course Option Description

Available for study in: Year 10.

Main areas of study:    

The focus of this course is to provide students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in commerce.

In this course you will learn:    

  • Invention and innovation
  • Entrepreneurship 
  • How a business funds itself through basic accounting concepts
  • Basic Economic theory that is used within a business

This course provides explicit teaching of literacy, research, communication (written and oral), and report writing.

Methods of assessment:    

Multiple choice knowledge assessment and key skills/processes including:

  • Group work within a hypothetical company
  • Report writing on innovative products
  • Research and presentation

This course leads to:    

Optional:

  • 5ACTH Critical Thinking in the Humanities  (Optional Year 10)

Level One Social Science courses:

Level 1 Social Science courses (6COM, 6GEO and 6HIS). All Social Studies courses provide an excellent foundation to gain success in senior Social Science courses such as Geography, History, Economics, Business Studies and Tourism

General stationery including pens, pencil, colouring pencils.

Pathway

This course is particularly useful to students wishing to study Level 1 Economics and Business Studies (6ECB). All Social Studies courses provide an excellent foundation to gain success in senior Social Science courses such as geography, tourism, business studies, economics and history.
