Year 09 5SES – Sport and Exercise Studies
Course Option Description
Main areas of study:
Sport and Exercise Studies is designed for students who are passionate about physical activity and sport. Students will learn in, through and about movement by participating in a wide range of physical activities as well as classroom based activities using a sporting context.
It is expected that students opting into this course will be prepared each lesson with full PE gear and are active and passionate participaters in all activities.
This course allows students to participate in a full year of Physical Education and ensures they are well prepared for Level 1 PE if they opt into it.
Students will leave Physical Education with tools to enable the development of:
- Personal hauora, influences, consequences, and strategies for how to improve and manage your wellbeing.
- Tolerance.
- Learning about others.
- An understanding of their body movement.
- Constructive attitudes and values.
- Sensitivity and empathy to others.
- Cooperative and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for physical activity.
- Life skills, including respect for self and others, inclusiveness, personal and social responsibility.
The goal of Physical Education is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to lead healthy active lives and embody this sense of physical literacy.
Methods of assessment:
All Health and Physical Education assessments are curriculum based levels and are assessed primarily over Level 4 and 5 of the NZ Curriculum. There are a variety of different assessment modes across the course including; demonstrating physical and interpersonal skills.
