Year 12 7TRD – Trade Skills (at WHS) (NCEA L2)

Course Option Description

Head of Learning Area (HOLA): Mrs L. Richards.

Why this course:

This is a trades academy programme run in partnership with SIT Te Pukenga and the Government. It is run on the school timetable, but classes operate out of the SIT workshop on Glenda Drive. All transport to and from school is provided.

This course provides the background learning for students to make informed decisions for a wider range of career pathways in the trade areas. Individual learning leading to either employment or decisions on focussing on one particular career pathway beyond school. Students with previous history of unsafe behaviour in the kitchen or workshop and/or multiple referrals from these classes may be given conditional entry or in some cases denied entry to the course.

Course information:

The focus of your automotive training will be around dismantling and assembling engines. This is a really interesting part of the trade, you will really enjoy it. You will learn the correct procedures, why it is important, the right tools to use, and will also have the chance to work in teams pulling a 4 cylinder engine apart and putting it back together.

You will learn about common engineering tools and use those tools to help build a project.

When it comes to the year 12 construction project, you will be building something that will challenge you to plan, calculate, track and complete to a high standard.

This course leads to:    Level 3 Trade skills at WHS (8TRD).

Please note this is an alternative pathways course that does not lead to a university entrance (UE)-approved course at Level 3

Prerequisites

Entry is granted at the discretion of the HoLA. Students with previous history of unsafe behaviour in the kitchen or workshop and/or multiple referrals from these classes may be given conditional entry or in some cases denied entry to the course.
