Why this course:
This course combines an introduction to Economics and Business Studies. It leads to the separate Economics and Business Studies courses available at Levels 2 and 3, which are each accredited UE courses at Level 3.
The knowledge and skills gained in Economics and Business Studies, and exposure to enterprise culture, can help shape ‘creative, energetic and enterprising’ young people who will contribute to New Zealand’s economic future.
Course information:
Students will gain knowledge, skills and experience in:
- Fast moving consumer goods and strategies used to market these products
- Circular flow and interdependence within the New Zealand economy - local case study.
- Planning, carrying out and reviewing a business activity (group work component)
- Demand, supply and market equilibirium.
This course leads to:
Level 2 Economics (7ECO) and/or Level 2 Business Studies (7BUS)
Prerequisites
Satisfactory completion of 5ASOC1 or at the discretion of the HoLA.
Equipment and Stationery
General stationery including a ruler. Students will complete this course using a workbook for the economics component.

This course is assessed using Achievement and/or Unit Standards. Please note exact standards are subject to change and individual assessment programmes may be provided in consultation with student and teacher.Credit Information
